Instrument Moving Services in Raleigh, NC

A piano doesn’t move like a couch, and neither does a full drum kit or a fretted instrument worth more than the truck it’s riding in. Our instrument moving services in Raleigh, NC, are built around that difference – real piano boards instead of a dolly and a prayer, padded straps sized for an upright or a grand, and a crew that knows a Steinway needs different handling than a keyboard stand. DC Movers treats specialty items as specialty items, not an afterthought squeezed in between the couch and the dresser.

WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU?

Instrument moving is what brought you to this page, but it’s one part of a bigger lineup DC Movers runs across Raleigh – everything from a two-person apartment move to full commercial relocations and long-distance shipments. Rather than repeat that whole menu here, see the [complete breakdown on our Raleigh moving services page]. What follows on this page is everything specific to moving an instrument itself.

Expert Cross State Moving Services for Smooth Transitions

Two-Men and a Truck Service

A single musician moving a keyboard, an acoustic guitar, and an amp out of a place near University Park usually just needs two movers. We pad the instrument separately from the rest of the load, strap it so it can't shift against a dresser or a box during the drive, and carry it on and off the truck first and last so it spends the least time getting jostled.

Three-Men and a Truck Service

A full drum kit, a couple of guitar amps, and a keyboard rig for a band near Drewry Hills is too much gear for two people to load carefully and quickly. The third mover stays focused on padding and staging cases in the order they'll come off the truck, while the other two carry, so nothing gets stacked wrong or crushed under something heavier.

Long-Distance Moving Service

A musician relocating out of state — say, taking a teaching position in Tennessee or joining an ensemble somewhere new — needs instruments that can survive more than a short drive across town. We build in extra padding and secure strapping for anything traveling multiple days, and load instruments last so they're the first things off the truck at the new address.

Residential Moving

Most instrument calls come from ordinary households — a family near Budleigh with a piano that's been in the living room for two generations, a student off Coley Forest with a cello that doesn't fit in a car. We treat a $300 practice keyboard and a decades-old upright with the same care, because the owner's attachment to it matters more than the price tag.

Commercial moving

Churches, music schools, and venues call us for instruments too big to move casually. A church near downtown with a pipe organ that needs components relocated, or a studio moving its recording gear before a lease ends, both need a crew that understands the equipment isn't just heavy — it's calibrated, and rough handling can throw that off.

Packing & Unpacking services

Packing an instrument right usually means a hard case if the owner has one, and padded blankets layered underneath if they don't. We wrap exposed necks, pedals, and keys separately from the main body, and label cases so nothing meant for a stage gets buried under boxes labeled "kitchen" come unloading day, when everyone's in a hurry to get set back up.

Instrument moving

This is the specialty the rest of the page supports. Piano moving, organ moving, drum set moving, guitar transportation, and band equipment moving get the same standard: real padding, secure strapped transportation, and a loading order where delicate pieces never sit under something heavy. A piano and a snare drum need different handling — our crews know which.

Flat-Rate Local Moves Service

A flat local rate covers instrument padding and careful loading time, not just the truck ride. We ask what's coming — piano, drum kit, a full band setup — during the walkthrough, so the extra care an instrument actually needs is already priced into the number, not billed separately once the crew realizes what they're dealing with.
assembling furniture moving service

Furniture assembly & disassembly

Keyboard stands, cymbal stands, and rack-mounted gear come apart and go back together the same careful way a bed frame does. We break down anything bolted into a stand or a rack before it travels, keep the hardware bagged by piece, and rebuild it at the new place so a drum kit or a synth rig is stage-ready again, not a pile of parts.

LEARN MORE ABOUT US

Who are we?

DC Movers built its instrument-handling process the way any specialty mover should: by treating a piano differently than a filing cabinet from day one. We keep piano boards, four-wheel dollies rated for several hundred pounds, and ramp systems sized for a real upright or grand, not gear borrowed for the day. Crews learn the difference between a spinet, a console, and a full upright before touching one, since the balance point and lift technique aren’t the same. We’ve moved instruments out of Raleigh churches, university practice rooms, and home studios with a rack of amps bolted together. Whatever the instrument, the same careful process applies.

THE POWER OF OUR SERVICE

Why Choose DC Movers in Raleigh, NC

Anyone can rent a dolly and call themselves an instrument mover, right up until a leg cracks on the stairs or a piano’s cast-iron plate shifts mid-move and throws the whole load off balance. We’ve seen what happens when general movers treat a piano like an oversized dresser, and we built our process specifically to avoid that outcome. The tools, the technique, and the extra set of hands for a tight stairwell are what actually separate a safe instrument move from an expensive mistake.

Reasons to Trust

We use real piano boards and properly rated straps, not a furniture dolly and improvisation, for anything heavier than a small keyboard stand.

Your Best Choice

One piano, or a full band’s worth of gear – amps, drums, cases, the works – we can quote it either as its own job or folded into a larger household move.

Right Choice for You

We know which older Raleigh homes have stairwells and doorway widths that make a grand piano move genuinely difficult before we ever show up.

Professional

Crews check an instrument’s actual weight and balance point before lifting it, not after something heavy is already tipping toward the floor.

Top-Rated & Large Instrument Moving in Raleigh, NC

A city with as much live music as Raleigh has plenty of pianos, organs, and full band setups changing addresses in any given month. We’ve moved upright pianos out of home studios preparing for a smaller place, drum kits and full PA setups for bands relocating rehearsal space, and church organs and console pianos during a renovation or a move to a new building. Musicians who play regularly around downtown’s concert and theater scene know that a scratched finish or a cracked soundboard isn’t something insurance fully makes up for, so word gets around fast about which movers actually know how to handle the instrument itself, not just the moving part. That reputation, built one careful piano and one careful drum kit at a time, is most of why people call DC Movers specifically for this instead of just booking whichever general mover answers first.

Call Us Now

Tell us what’s actually moving – an upright piano, a grand, a full drum kit, a band’s worth of amps and cases – and we’ll quote the instrument to move on its own or as part of a bigger relocation. The more specific you can be about size, weight, and any stairs or tight doorways involved, the more accurate the quote before we ever show up. If it’s a piano or anything else that genuinely can’t just be muscled onto a dolly, DC Movers is set up to move it correctly the first time.

On 9/18/2025 I used DLC MOVERS for the first time. The gentleman that came to move me was Cash, Micheal and Fred. I Was not to sure of them at first, but they did and excellent job. They stayed busy and next thing I know my place was empty and being loaded on the truck. I want to say that if I move again or if anyone want the name of a great moving company, call DLC MOVERS. I will let them know how outstanding, professional and how well you took care of my belongings. Thank you very much and take care. I will spread the word and thanks again for the awesome service. Much appreciated.

Recommend DLC Movers HIGHLY - Devlin and his team were awesome to work with! We had a local move that involved three locations (Pittsboro > Chapel Hill > Durham) and we had not been able to pack up all our stuff very well by move day. The guys were great at navigating "what goes/what stays" and carefully packing up things that were still unpacked. They were very helpful in placing and reassembling furniture, too. The team worked fast but I could tell they were being careful with all our belongings. So I really felt I got the value I was hoping for. I will use DLC Movers again for the next move (which hopefully I won't have to do anytime soon!).
